Fam trip series: Mauritius

The next instalment of our fam trip series recalls a trip to the island of Mauritius, and why the destination is great for incentive travel.

Back in February 2019, First Event Account Manager Kate was lucky enough to visit the stunning island of Mauritius on a FAM trip with MM and Company and Connections DMC. During the trip, Kate took part in an incredible ground programme that showcased the best bits of this awe-inspiring destination.

Staying at both the Shangri La and Lux Grand Gaube, Kate was able to get a taste of the luxury that the accommodation on the island has to offer, and how it could make up part of an amazing incentive event.

"The hotels were different, with one offering a larger, more contemporary space, whilst the other felt much more cosy. However both offered the level of luxury expected from an incentive event."

Alongside luxurious accommodation was a well-designed bespoke itinerary that allowed delegates to experience the wonders and possibilities of Mauritius as an event destination.

“Upon arrival in Mauritius, we had breakfast on a private island – which can be hired exclusively for team events – and were given gift packs including a personalised towel, mosquito repellent and sun cream, which was really thoughtful.”

During the time spent on this blissful island, Kate was impressed by how it could be utilised to suit a variety of group and event requirements.

“Many of the activities we took part in, restaurants we ate at, and definitely the hotels we stayed at, would work fantastically as part of an incentive event. The warm climate and stunning scenery means that activities aren’t restricted to the indoors, and event agencies can get creative with outdoor gala dinners and dining options.

This destination is also great for a ground programme including a lot of free time. The luxury of the hotels meant that the facilities such as a spa and beach access could be utilised as we wished, and the serenity of the island certainly promotes relaxation to anyone that visits. For those seeking a little more adventure, snorkelling and kayaking are two of the activities that we took part in.”

As a destination, Mauritius is suitable for everyone, and offers a bespoke luxury that can only be achieved in this kind of secluded, inspirational destination.
